The word “calligraphy” derives from the Greek καλòς (kalos = beautiful) and γραφία (spelling = writing) which means “the art of beautiful writing”, where beautiful means harmonic, elegant, proportionate and pleasant.
The art of beauty, the aesthetic sense and patience: all this is the art of calligraphy. The study of characters and the ability to write, creating a work of art with calligraphy. Taking a calligraphy course does not only mean making your writing more beautiful, but diving into a world of harmonic proportions.
Description
This 20 hours calligraphy course will guide students through exercises which teach hand controlled pen angle and developing rhythm, while creating a series of marks you can work with in creating your unique project.
This course will show you how to use your art of calligraphy skills to create invitations , wall art, making beautiful gifts and home décor. The calligraphy teacher , brings her signature modern style to this traditional craft. The course provides a primer for creating a simple alphabet and how to find your own personal style of lettering, followed by wonderful projects that will delight your family, impress your friends, and beautify your home, of the finished pieces.
Although designed for beginner calligraphers. this class teaches skills which can enhance the work of illustrators, designers, typographers, tattoo artists, watercolor artists and anyone else who isn’t afraid of a little water-based ink on their fingers!
Carry the calligraphy tools easily everywhere and get away from the digital screen and get lost in the moment with calligraphy. You will be able in connect with other students from around the world who are going through the program in Cyprus.
You can even buy a pre-made kit that is designed for the program.
Knowledge Required
All levels and ages are welcome from beginners to those who want to brush up on their skills.
What You Will Learn
At the end of the course, you will be able to apply letters and numerals of the modern pointed pen, letter design techniques and layout skills to your own work.
Learn the ink, nib and paper combinations that play well together and how to build your technique.
This form of one-on-one coaching will accelerate your learning.
What To Bring
If you prefer, at the workshop, you will find all the material on sale for the entire duration of the course or If you wish to purchase ALL materials yourself, please bring the following:
- A4 or A3 layout pad;
- Copperplate or pointed pen nib- Zebra G nib recommended;
- Pen holder – either straight pen holder or an oblique holder specifically for Copperplate;
- Ink;
- Coloured inks, gouache, coloured pencils;
- Ruler, pencil HB;
- Water jar, rag;
- Other supplies will be advised if needed throughout the course;

Tima Riahi
She is an Iranian Photographer, painter, and documentary maker, most well known for her photography based on Southern Cyprus. Tima Riahi uses her photography to create mesmerising images that dig deep below the surface of her subjects.
Tima was born in Iran and grew up in the capital Tehran. She studied Art and psychology and obtained her bachelor’s degree. She migrated to southern Cyprus and continues her studies, a master’s degree in fine art (MFA) from the creative art academy (CAA) in Limassol.
Her work is based on aesthetic in human body, portraits, and interpretation of the photographs by using psychoanalysis.
She experiments with ‘old’ and ‘new’ techniques, capturing beauty based on aesthetic vision. She looks at the photographs creating and merging with digital painting.
